Happy Birthday to our Dogs!

Do you celebrate your dog’s birthday? We do. They’re really important members of our family so we couldn’t skip this celebration of their lives. Of our three dogs, two had birthdays in May. Heidi, our rescued puppy-mill Shih Tzu, turned 7 on May 4th and Charlie, our rescued Golden Retriever, turned 10 on May 29th. We will be celebrating Abby, our American Cocker Spaniel on August 3rd.

Springtime Timber Hike With Charlie!

The spring rains stopped for a couple of days so I took advantage of the brief respite and headed down into the timber with Charlie, our rescued golden retriever. Even though she is a “senior” now, she still loves exploring in the  timber. She would be heartbroken if left behind. Deer trails criss-cross the timber and a fox den shows recent activity. Add the numerous squirrels running, teasing and then sprinting up a tree trunk, and it’s a smorgasbord of different scents for a dog.

I love this time of year. The tender, just opening foliage and grasses created a gorgeous tapestry of textures and  varying shades of light green.  Continue reading “Springtime Timber Hike With Charlie!”

Snow Day for the Dogs

Abby is a chocolate American Cocker Spaniel who is badly in need of a trim right now. She is the bossy girl of the bunch. Her favorite toy in the whole world is a squeaky tennis ball.

Abby

Heidi is a Shih Tzu and was a rescue from a horrible puppy mill. She is the sweetest little girl in the world who has gradually learned to trust. She tends to be a bit of a diva in the snow. It’s cold! The snow sticks to her fur and makes her wet! And the worst part, if it is very deep, she gets stuck with her short little legs and has to be rescued!

Heidi

Charlie is part Golden Retriever. She is a real lover who wouldn’t hurt a fly. She is also a rescue. Even though she is a senior, she is very smart, playful, and LOVES the snow.

The following is child’s dog’s play.

Dog days of Summer

With temperatures next week to soar in the 90’s and humidity levels almost as high, Charlie and I took advantage of today’s gorgeous, tepid weather to head to the lake for our daily walk.

Charlie pranced as we set out on our walk. She glanced up at me and gave me her heart-melting golden retriever grin. She LOVES going on walks! We started off visiting with the dancing mallard ducks watching them maintain a steady stream of quacking conversation and then continued around the winding path.We stopped to soak in the beauty of a few on the wildflowers before Charlie’s first of three chances to swim.
